Help maintain the KARE 11 Barn at the Minnesota State Fair

•  Assist with activations, community involvement activities, local programming and newscasts (set up, take down, errands, etc.)

•  Advise and support barn coordinators in their tasks

•  General organization and clean-up to keep the Barn looking top notch for our guests

•  Replenish supplies and assist with giveaways in the KARE 11 Barn

•  Work with security to provide oversight and safety awareness for people who visit and our KARE 11 Team

Job Overview

This position is responsible for assisting in the marketing and promotion efforts of KS95 during the 2025 Minnesota State Fair.

Job Responsibilities

  • Set up and represent the station at the Minnesota State Fair; ability to operate a basic cash register and credit card machine to sell t-shirts and merchandise; interact with clients, station personnel, the general public & listeners; organize client materials and station items to be distributed to our audience; assist as needed with air staff meet & greet and photo ops; maintain a clean and orderly site to best represent our station.

This position is responsible for operating the board for live, satellite delivered content and syndicated programming. The Board Operator ensures that all preplanned components of a broadcast are carried out as designed, including, set-up, operation and maintenance of electronic equipment used to transmit programs on KSTP-AM 1500 ESPN. Job Responsibilities

  • Run control board, commercials, and other elements during live programs, brokered radio programs, or live sporting events. Includes monitoring of system automation.
  • Operate and troubleshoot switcher and any other radio equipment used in the course of the production of a live or recorded broadcast.
  • Technical perfection and flawless execution of control board and equipment to regulate the volume and sound quality during radio broadcasts.
  • Observe monitors and manage outgoing audio and sounds levels.
  • Follow program log.
  • Monitor all systems and make sure they are all running on schedule. Note any issues or concerns on log.
  • Monitor and update severe weather forecasts.
  • When required, go on-air to report on life-threatening or emergency situations until further support arrives.
  • Record, edit or play back any sound requested from broadcasts.
  • Monitor automation, transmitter controls, which includes pattern/tower changes and record required readings.
  • Assess emergency situations for the station, and make decisions on when to call for additional support.
  • Knowledgeable of, and applies as needed, all current FCC rules and regulations.
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours. Ability to work other hours or alternate schedules as needed, as assigned or requested by Program Director with little or no notice. Such alternate/additional work can include weekdays, evenings and weekends.
  • Complete other duties as requested and needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent required, with a minimum one (1) year experience running a radio board preferred; or a combination of education and work experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must be able to respond and work well in a crisis and handle last minute and unexpected changes during work shift.
  • Be able to communicate quickly and clearly to co-workers and others as needed.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly and follow both oral and written direction.
  • Ability to think critically and quickly and to articulate information in clear, concise manner to others.
  • Ability to think spontaneously and ad lib while on air in a coherent manner in situations that can change quickly.
  • Ability to learn automation systems.

The Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations (AMPERS), the largest association of its kind in the nation, is seeking an experienced, highly driven, motivated, and energetic Director of Development.

Duties will include:

  1. Secure new statewide underwriting clients.
  2. Maintain and increase underwriting investments from existing clients.
  3. Write underwriting messages.
  4. Ensure underwriting messages comply with all FCC guidelines.
  5. Create underwriting schedules for clients and enter them into Marketron traffic system.
  6. Enter underwriting traffic instructions in Marketron, send traffic instructions to stations, and ensure stations are airing the messages correctly.
  7. Create underwriting invoices and collect payments from clients.
  8. Write and secure grants.
  9. Assist with lobbying efforts.
  10. Secure sponsors for unique, customized, educational programming.
  11. Communicate progress to the CEO of AMPERS on a regular basis.
  12. Additional duties as assigned by the CEO of AMPERS.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  1. Five years of experience working in development
  2. Significant grant writing experience
  3. Experience working in public media

  • Excellent verbal skills when speaking with the public and media contacts.
  • Advanced computer literacy and ability to learn new programs/platforms--Knowledge of contemporary newsroom systems is highly
    desired.
  • Experience with digital publishing and content management systems, especially WordPress
  • Experience with web analytics, including Google Analytics, Chartbeat and CrowdTangle
  • Four-year Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism or communications, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Prior experience using major social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube is required.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Compensation and Benefits

When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $21.63 - $31.73 per hour.
