As a traffic assistant at Radio Mankato’s cluster of stations you are essentially the stations’ DJ for commercials. You’ll play an intercultural role in making sure the stations sound great and are programmed properly. Entering orders and scheduling are at the core of this role.

Radio Mankato is the largest collection of FM and AM signals serving southern Minnesota and we’re looking for a collaborative individual who’s organized and able to multitask.

You will work alongside our Traffic Manager while assisting the Sales and On-Air departments. Are you good at solving puzzles? The ultimate candidate will enjoy problem-solving and appreciate practicing those talents across multiple tasks simultaneously.   • Compile a list of programs to be promoted with accurate airdate and times.
  • Assists with troubleshooting on-air traffic and broadcast-related issues.

Maintenance Technician

Overview / Role Details:

This role maintains, repairs and installs all technical equipment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Installs, maintains and helps detail all technical facilities, equipment and related software.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, hosts MPS radio station KBEM musical programs; keeps current with new trends in Jazz music, and maintains the music library and legacy programming.

  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.

  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

High School Diploma/GED equivalent, completion of a recognized broadcasting training program; AND two (2) years of radio broadcasting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.  

Knowledge of:
  • FCC guidelines, rules, and regulations governing telecommunications operations.
  • Techniques and protocols for presenting public radio programming.
  • Operation and general maintenance of Broadcasting equipment.
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.

Skill in:

  • Recording, producing, and broadcasting audio projects.
  • Efficient and effective use of broadcast equipment.
  • Identifying music which meets station standards and listener demographics.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.

Communicates with the Transportation Department, administration, and parents on transportation concerns.
  • Truancy: Assist licensed personnel in implementing attendance and truancy procedures. Provide support to students with attendance issues through home visits, parent contact, group counseling, team meetings and community agencies.

Digital and Social Media Coordinator

KBEM-FM in Minneapolis/St. Paul is seeking a Digital and Social Media Coordinator.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans and facilitates website, apps, digital, and social media for KBEM and MPS Voices, including email engagement and promotion of content and fundraising efforts. On-air or online, live, or recorded announcing is part of this position.

  • Using Google Analytics and digital reporting tools, evaluate performance and extract actionable insight about the success of digital engagement and fundraising efforts (ROI’s, KPI’s, Conversion). Follow the trends of digital engagement, fundraising, marketing and advertising
  • Manages KBEM and MPS Voices social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and acts as a resource for social media efforts by staff, contractors, sponsors, and volunteers.
  • Works with KBEM and MPS Voices staff to conceptualize, plan, coordinate, and execute written, video, photography and digital components of the websites, apps and social media platforms.
  • Manages digital platforms with frequently updated content by curating, writing, designing and editing; repurpose and promote content across multiple channels including social media, email and website.
  • Coordinates pre-production and production planning activities; conducts field-based video production, operating video and audio equipment; transports and sets up lighting and audio equipment as required; plans and performs video post-production tasks which includes reviewing footage, making editorial decisions, and final editing.
  • Follows trends in social media and digital communications; suggests improvements.
  • In consultation with the KBEM and MPS Voices staff, identifies photo needs; produces and processes photos; and develops storage system for image library.
  • Recommends and executes tests and experiments with social media platforms and new features.
  • Exercises independent judgment within policy guidelines; analyzes issues and recommends solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree in communications, digital media, broadcast journalism or related field; AND two (2) years of experience in communications with significant emphasis on digital and web-related projects; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:

  • Professional audio & video production procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology.
  • Media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Web technologies and concepts; search engines, landing page design and optimization, tools and trends.
