Job Overview

This position is responsible for covering and reporting the news for the station’s newscasts and digital properties.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop enterprise story ideas based on a customer centric approach with community impact as focus.
  • Present live on television and digital sites in both scripted and unscripted news reports.
  • Write clearly, accurately and conversationally for all platforms.
  • Break down complicated and involved stories so that they are easy to understand.
  • Bring a creative mindset to the newsroom each day.
  • Ensure that any visuals shown are relevant, appropriate and impactful.
  • Maintain standards of accuracy and fairness in news coverage.
  • Excel at breaking news and clearly delivering accurate information.
  • Write for and maintain strong presence on website and other social media platforms.
  • Complete assignments according to established deadlines.
  • Work closely and respectfully with assigned photographers.
  • Attend editorial and strategic meetings
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours. Ability to work other hours or alternate schedules including early mornings, days, late evenings, weekends and holidays as needed, as assigned by news management.
  • Make promotional and community appearances as required.
  • Act in a professional manner when representing the station.
  • Maintain professional standards regarding wardrobe, hair, cosmetics, and other areas of grooming as required for position.

 

Qualifications

  • College degree in journalism, television or communications or equivalent experience.
  • Solid journalism background with multi-year experience in an on-camera reporting role.
  • Must be knowledgeable of issues, newsmakers, and current events and be able to present stories in a way that is accurate, clear, complete, and relevant to viewers.
  • Ability to handle a variety of news reporting assignments, including but not limited to, live appearances on the news set, breaking news and remote locations.
  • Solid conversational writing skills required. Knowledge of production values required.
  • Ability to get along and communicate with a variety of people in often extreme circumstances.
  • Must be able to think quickly and respond to breaking news in high pressure situations and have strong organization and live reporting skills.
  • Ability to read, hear and speak clearly and follow both oral and written direction.
  • Welcome feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Must be flexible to work any assigned shift including nights, weekends, holidays; and extended hours.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record and be insurable. Applicant's driving record will be checked.

Compensation and Benefits

KARE, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Minneapolis, MN, is seeking a skilled, hands-on technical leader to oversee daily technology operations, manage the engineering team, and ensure the reliability, security, and innovation of our broadcast, production, and IT systems. This role blends strategic planning, project management, and direct technical support in a 24/7/365 environment.

Responsibilities:
•    Lead daily operations of the Technology & Operations department.
•    Supervise, mentor, and schedule engineers and IT.
•    Maintain and upgrade broadcast infrastructure, including studios, control rooms, transmitter sites, and remote facilities.
•    Maintain and upgrade IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, workstations, and network systems.
•    Oversee troubleshooting and repair of broadcast and IT systems to minimize downtime.
•    Manage the technical support ticket system and ensure accurate documentation.
•    Monitor and maintain technical facilities infrastructure such as HVAC, UPS, and backup power systems.
•    Design and integrate broadcast and IT systems, including routers, newsroom systems, automation, weather, and digital asset management.
•    Plan and execute local, capital, and corporate technology projects.
•    Ensure compliance with FCC, IT security, and OSHA requirements.
•    Lead business continuity and disaster recovery planning.

Requirements:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
•    Minimum 5 years in broadcast operations/technology, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
•    Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
•    Hands-on expertise with broadcast systems, networking, servers, and desktop support.
•    Experience with system design, integration, and technical documentation.
•    Knowledge of satellite, microwave, and IP newsgathering technologies (preferred).
•    Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
•    Ability to make decisions and solve problems under pressure.

The ideal candidate will thrive in severe weather coverage but can also deliver daily audience-focused forecasts. As a crucial member of the department, the ideal candidate is a team player who participates in brainstorming and planning for future shows, including important weather events and explainers.
This position is responsible for preparing and delivering accurate weather reports on-air and streaming on-line in a conversational manner. The key responsibility is the ability to gather and analyze information and alert our audiences about what’s going to happen with weather in their community. We are looking for a team player who can help with every aspect of meteorology, from forecasting, to preparing graphics, to reporting in the field, you will be an integral part of severe weather coverage, and reaching our consumers not only on TV, but online and on social media. The ideal candidate embraces new technology and is willing to explore new ways to present the weather story. A specific knowledge of the Max weather graphics system is required; an advanced understanding is a plus.

Responsibilities:
•    Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts on multiple platforms
•    Produce clean, creative, and informative graphics to tell the weather story
•    Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary, and keeping the coverage going on our streaming platforms throughout the storm event.
•    Update website and engage with viewers on social media platforms daily
•    Develop unique daily weather story ideas.
•    Write, edit, and report on weather content from the field or inside the newsroom
•    Collaborate with the weather team to produce special reports and seasonal outlooks

Requirements:

News Director

The news director is responsible for developing and reporting local news stories for the radio newscasts Monday-Friday and for our website. 

The news director covers Crookston City Council, Polk County Commission, and Crookston School District meetings. The news director also covers community events and any other news in the area.

The news director can also help with covering sporting events for the website if interested.

This position is responsible for identifying opportunities to partner with companies that are in need of business and marketing strategy services and will develop a strategic advertising plan to include tactics necessary to reach and exceed goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying opportunities in territory for marketing/advertising.
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with key customer accounts.
  • Generating leads through cold calling prospective clients or networking at conferences, trade shows, and events.
  • Conduct educational seminars to potential clients and for larger scale clients.
  • Keeping up with the latest industry developments, including market positioning of corporate competitors.
  • Work with multiple departments (radio, programming, design, digital, print) to ensure an all encompassing campaign to help the client reach his/her business goals.
  • Enter orders into our invoicing system as well as the workflow to ensure all campaigns are completed properly and timely.
  • Create custom results reports to use in conjunction with results dashboard and have monthly meetings with clients to show goal achievement progress, review necessary changes, and make suggestions to optimize marketing campaigns.
  • Build strong client relationships with clients, peers, market leadership, and any Marketing Consultant/Account Manager with which you work.
  • Set digital marketing strategies using all necessary tools (e.g. website, targeted emails, social media, retargeting, SEM, etc.).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Working knowledge (or the aptitude to learn quickly) of all forms of advertising media and when to utilize (radio/programmatic audio, TV/OTT/CTV, billboard placement, targeted display (geofencing, site, search retargeting), SEM, targeted email, and social media.

LICENSES:

  • A valid Driver’s License issued to you from the State in which you are employed is required.  This is a continuous requirement during employment with the Company.

The Local Sales Manager (LSM) is responsible for growing market share and creating brand new TV/Digital business opportunities. The LSM manages and develops the Account Executives and Account Managers on the sales team and develops strategies to win over clients within the market. The LSM oversees performance and holds his team accountable for the achievement of their individual goals to achieve the collective objectives for both television and digital.  This position reports to the Director of Sales. 

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, retain and effectively train ‘A’ sales and support talent for your team on how to sell TV and TEGNA’s large portfolio of digital products. 
  • Lead and develop a team of direct reports consisting of Account Executives, Account Managers and manage a handful of dotted line reports. 
  • Supports sales staff with ride along coaching, participating in client meetings, developing proposals and other aspects of the full sales process.  
  • Identify market potential through lead generation and qualification. 
  • Develop sales strategy for your team and everyone on the team to reach or exceed revenue goals for the station. 
  • Analyze each account to create and maximize ideal marketing executions for clients, and complete appropriate business activity reports and forecasts as required. 
  • Develop strong relationships with local clients, manage key local accounts with your team and ensure top-shelf service is provided to all accounts. 
  • Review and adjust metrics to monitor sales/market share changes. 

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of successful broadcast TV sales and account engagement experience. 
  • Track record of successfully achieving or exceeding sales goals in the broadcast TV industry within fast-changing, dynamic environments, spanning all the facets of marketing solutions from linear TV to digital, including OTT.   
  • Established leadership skills and demonstrated ability to develop teams with elite sales and customer service skills.  
  • Strategic thinker and disciplined executor comfortable developing and making recommendations to senior management. 
  • Possess the ability to build inclusive and positive work culture to foster success for the sales team.  
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Wide Orbit Sales, Salesforce, Wide Orbit Traffic & Wide Orbit Analytics, Comscore, Matrix, Media Monitors, and qualitative data. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects effectively under deadline pressure.

Job Overview

A professional internship for a full-time student on the college/university level providing practical sports journalism experience through paid internship work on a weekly basis within the sports department of a local television newsroom in the Twin Cities.

Job Responsibilities

Works in the sports department as assigned, learning first-hand the operation of the newsroom and gaining valuable hands-on experience under the direct supervision of sports staff.
Activities to include any regular functions of the newsroom, including but not limited to writing, producing, reporting, photojournalism, and operations in the day-to-day newsgathering performed by members of the sports and news department staffs.
Attends daily editorial meetings, checks news sources, including wire services, email contacts, and phone calls received by the content desk.
Assigned practical work in supporting working journalists, including researching, writing, and editing material to be reviewed and potentially incorporated in the newsgathering processes of the sports department.
Is knowledgeable about local, national, and world sports news. Is informed about issues and concerns of the station’s audience. Other duties as may be assigned, in keeping with the spirit of providing practical experience to the student who will, in turn, document the internship as may be required by their educational institution.

 

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in areas and conditions that are often noisy with many distractions. Must be able to listen to and respond verbally in English to others. Must have manual dexterity to operate office equipment (including telephone, PC workstation, copier, etc.) and manipulate computer keys. Ability to think critically and logically. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Average pushing and pulling, bending and stooping. Articulate information in a clear, concise manner to others verbally and in writing. Must be able to move quickly at times throughout the building. Works with time-sensitive information under tight deadlines and in pressure situations. Must be able to stand or sit for periods of time. Able to work outside as needed to gather information, including video shots, for stories. Qualifications

Full-time student pursuing a college degree with a major in journalism, mass communications or related field in an accredited institution of higher learning.

Ability to read, write and speak English well with good communications skills.
Good news judgment and understanding of daily sports news content.
Able to work well in a high-pressure environment, often under tight deadlines. Must be capable of handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and managing time-sensitive material in real-time.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Proficient with computers and web-based skills in research.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite.
