Job Overview

This position operates the board for live, satellite-delivered content and syndicated programming. The Board Operator
ensures that all preplanned components of a broadcast are carried out as designed, including set-up, operation, and maintenance of

Morning Announcer

KROX Radio in Crookston, MN (a Marconi Award finalist for the best small market station in 2019, 2022, and 2023) is looking for an energetic, dependable, and hard-working person to fill our morning shift/Sports play-by-play position.


The on-air shift will be from 5:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m.

 

The other part of the job would include broadcasting (a mix of radio and video web streaming) high school sports (soccer, volleyball, football, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball), and occasionally some University of Minnesota Crookston (NCAA D2) basketball, baseball, and softball. The announcer will also be asked to write game recaps/stories of some of the games for our award-winning website, KROXAM.com, for games they cover and other sporting events we don’t broadcast.

 

The current morning announcer will be on staff through the end of July and will offer help and training until then. 

 

We offer retirement, yearly bonus, and paid vacation. The starting salary will range from $35,000 to $40,000, depending on experience.

  • Work with all members of the Sports Department and the newsroom on stories as assigned

This position is responsible for studio production, audio and technical directing of live and pre-recorded television shows and promos.

Job Responsibilities

Studio

  • Operate television camera, teleprompter, and audio equipment at a satisfactory level and with confidence during live and taped shows.
  • Respond to all cues given over headset and in person during shows. Must react quickly and efficiently to cues and other directions.  Act as a critical communication link between director and talent.  Reports any concerns.
  • Take care of all aspects of studio maintenance, which includes cleaning, repair, set up, tear down and storage of studio and related items; routine inspection, monitoring performance and basic trouble shooting of equipment. Maintain studio lighting and other studio supplies. Follow proper protocol for notifying other personnel when items are needed or there are problems or failures. Studio Cleanliness includes Studio A, Studio C, Twin Cities Live studio, the production area and storage areas.
  • On a daily basis provides assistance to and provides input about the show.
  • Complete knowledge of the lighting systems in all studios

Audio

  • Under the direction of the director, correctly/accurately switch all audio going through the audio booth. Work ahead to insure that all elements needed during your shift are ready to go.
  • Control the quality of the audio going through the audio booth. Insure that all elements of the audio are at the proper level. Insure that the balance between microphones, music, and videotape sources are mixed and at a proper relationship with each other.
  • Ready at the audio position during assigned shift to handle any audio needs, especially during times of breaking news.
  • Help with coverage of special events and with the coverage of audio during vacations and other times when no audio operator is available.
  • Insure that all paperwork is filled out properly. Accurately complete the logging of all musical elements to insure proper credits under the music license rules. Complete any logs, scripts or other paperwork that is required.

Technical Directing

  • Technical direct a creative and technically clean productions within format guidelines.
  • Protect the integrity of the format.
  • Make suggestions for improvement.
  • Be responsible for all elements of a show. Set a positive attitude and example. Solve problems at the source. Challenge employees to improve. Respond appropriately to others.

Other

  • Assist with training or assistance to new staff members.
  • Work as a team player. Set a positive attitude and example. Foster a spirit of cooperation and helpfulness with news and other departments. Develop professional relationships with employees of other departments.

Responsible for writing newscasts and production of the broadcast.

Job Responsibilities

  • Constructs and plans a daily newscast by organizing, writing, selecting, and making creative decisions for assigned live newscast, using criteria established by management. Makes decisions about stories to be included, how long they should be, the form of the story (i.e. voice over, live remote, reporter package, etc.), and in what order they should run. Writes and rewrites stories as needed. Plans for contingencies.
  • Makes sure all aspects of the newscast are complete before the newscast airs. Plans ahead and meets deadlines so newscasts can run smoothly for all involved. Important aspects include completed scripts, graphic information, video lists, all necessary script times, and key information. Enters information for story choices and storied into the newsroom computer system. Notifies proper people of any changes or special situations that may come up in a timely manner (i.e. breaking news, live shots)
  • Writes and posts stories to website and other media platforms. Posts to social media. Frequently updates online stories.
  • Shoots and edits videotape for broadcast as needed.
  • Communicates frequently throughout the shift and works collaboratively with others in the newsroom including reporters, anchors, photographers, assignment desk staff, creative services and other producers about the newscast and any changes being made. Relays story and newscast instructions and information throughout the day via telephones, e-mails, faxes or other ways available. Motivates staff before and during newscast.
  • Responds and work well in a crisis and during breaking news. Handles last minute and unexpected changes. Communicates quickly and clearly to necessary staff and talent.
  • Writes clear, accurate and interesting stories. Ensures that any visuals shown are relevant, appropriate and impact. Breaks down complicated and involved stories so that they are easy to understand.
  • Makes decisions about the timing of a live newscast as it is being broadcast. The Producer watches the live newscast from a designated control room. Communicates changes to director, technical director, audio operator, graphics person, studio operators (inc. camera operators, floor director, teleprompter operator), videotape operator, master control operator, and anchors. Decisions about the live newscast are immediate and communications must be relayed clearly and timely.
  • Completes post-show paperwork and tasks including the technical trouble report and archiving.
  • Attends editorial and strategic meetings. Comes prepared to meetings and interacts professionally with others. Contributes story ideas on a daily basis.
  • Is knowledgeable of local, national and world events. Has a handle on what is going on in the community.
  • Consults with news director, executive producer and/or assistant news director on difficult editorial issues

Job Responsibilities

  • G/L month end processing (40%): Prepare necessary journal entries for month-end processing, review financial statements and general ledger activity for adjustments. Additionally, perform all financial reporting requirements and distribute monthly financial statements to all department managers, General Managers, and Vice President. Prepare and submit reconciliation package to HBI Accounting on a monthly basis. Prepare updated monthly forecasts for internal review, based on inputs from department managers.
  • Collections/Credit Analysis (25%): Timely follow up with applicable radio accounts and Account Executives to status payment and resolve any disputed items. This includes maintaining updated contact information and notes regarding past conversations with accounts. Additionally, will need to make recommendations for transitioning accounts to outside collections agency. Position will be responsible for maintaining an updated Aging report, which entails timely processing of adjustments or refunds as required. Complete credit approval process for all new customers by contacting trade and bank references on completed credit application. Timeliness is critical as many times airtime orders are pending credit approval.
  • Cash Application (15%): Post payments to the appropriate invoices on the correct customer accounts. Reconcile accounts for customers paying on cash-in-advance basis by transferring unapplied cash to the appropriate invoice, computing account balances and refunding overpayments. Position will need to determine sales commission charge-backs and reversals at each month-end and prepare related spreadsheets for use by Payroll.
  • Other Duties ( 20%): Back-up to other Finance personnel as well as Regional Controller for select responsibilities. Assist with special projects such as automation initiatives, software upgrades, and others as determined.

  • Excellent understanding of GAAP and accounting theory and processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced software skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, complete projects and meet deadlines.

Accountant

Hubbard Radio Bemidji is seeking an Accountant.

Job Responsibilities

  • G/L month end processing (40%): Prepare necessary journal entries for month-end processing, review financial statements and general ledger activity for adjustments. Additionally, perform all financial reporting requirements and distribute monthly financial statements to all department managers, General Managers, and Vice President. Prepare and submit reconciliation package to HBI Accounting on a monthly basis. Prepare updated monthly forecasts for internal review, based on inputs from department managers.
  • Collections/Credit Analysis (25%): Timely follow up with applicable radio accounts and Account Executives to status payment and resolve any disputed items. This includes maintaining updated contact information and notes regarding past conversations with accounts. Additionally, will need to make recommendations for transitioning accounts to outside collections agency. Position will be responsible for maintaining an updated Aging report, which entails timely processing of adjustments or refunds as required. Complete credit approval process for all new customers by contacting trade and bank references on completed credit application. Timeliness is critical as many times airtime orders are pending credit approval.
  • Cash Application (15%): Post payments to the appropriate invoices on the correct customer accounts. Reconcile accounts for customers paying on cash-in-advance basis by transferring unapplied cash to the appropriate invoice, computing account balances and refunding overpayments. Position will need to determine sales commission charge-backs and reversals at each month-end and prepare related spreadsheets for use by Payroll.
  • Other Duties ( 20%): Back-up to other Finance personnel as well as Regional Controller for select responsibilities. Assist with special projects such as automation initiatives, software upgrades, and others as determined.

Job Overview

Position is responsible for detailed "hands-on" support of financial related activities including billing, general ledger month-end processing, analysis, reconciliation and reporting functions of business unit(s). Additionally, position will be responsible for collecting outstanding balances from accounts receivable, credit analysis/approval, cash application, and other duties/special projects, as determined. Position reports to Regional Controller and works with a variety of people including employees, HBI Accounting Dept. and customers (internal and external).

Qualifications

  • B.A. Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 2-3 years directly related business experience.
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP and accounting theory and processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced software skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, complete projects and meet deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits

Barn Manager

KARE-TV in Minnepaolis/St. Paul is seeking a Barn Manager.

The KARE 11 Barn at the Minnesota State Fair is a destination for many attendees to watch a live newscast or band, meet their favorite anchors, press a penny, get a drink, or just rest their feet for a few minutes.

The Barn is a busy place, and the role of the Barn Manager is:

•  Make sure everyone is having a good experience

•  Keep the area safe and presentable

•  Ensure tasks are identified, assigned, and addressed in a timely manner

Ideally, the Barn Manager has previous experience working at the KARE 11 Barn, or at minimum has hospitality management experience.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Help maintain the KARE 11 Barn at the Minnesota State Fair
  • Assist with activations, community involvement activities, local programming and newscasts (set up, take down, errands, etc.)
  • Advise and support barn coordinators in their tasks
  • General organization and clean-up to keep the Barn looking top notch for our guests
  • Replenish supplies and assist with giveaways in the KARE 11 Barn
  • Work with security to provide oversight and safety awareness for people who visit and our KARE 11 Team

 

Requirements: 

 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • 2-4 years of customer-facing service in a consumer oriented business
  • Community engagement experience
  • Highly organized and diligent
