JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Are you passionate about local news, telling stories from your community and helping lead a producing staff? We are searching for a full-time Senior newscast producer who will produce a show and lead the newsroom on the weekends. Our producers have a vision for their rundowns and deliver engaging newscasts with strong writing and production skills. Candidates will be expected to create rundowns, craft segments and manage weekend staff. Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to being flexible with show assignment, taking lead in breaking news situations and mentoring staff.

Candidates must be able to work on deadline, have strong news judgment, solid writing skills, knowledge of current events and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of television production techniques and newsroom computer systems is required. Knowledge of Internet publishing and related skills strongly preferred. Producer would also contribute to our streaming and social media platforms. We require two to three years of experience in a medium to major market and a four-year college degree.

  • Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with Ad-Ops, creative services, and finance departments
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate

 

Essential Skills:

  • To be successful in this position, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and effective time management skills are a must.  Proficiency in MS Office applications: PowerPoint, Excel and Word is highly preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Other Qualifications: College degree preferred.  Digital and technical training certificates a plus.  Basic digital product knowledge of Mobile, Email, Facebook, and Video advertising encouraged.

TECHNICIAN – AUTOMATION DIRECTOR (Full-time, Regular)

Fox 9 KMSP/WFTC is looking is seeking an inventive and creative Director to join our production team and help in crafting our award-winning newscasts.

Responsibilities:

Direct live and recorded newscasts and programs.

Operate Sony ELC production automation.

Work with Producers to pre-code show rundowns in iNews, camera block, place talent, and make post-show discrepancy reports.

This position will also be cross-trained on other technical responsibilities such as floor directing in studio; relaying cues and other directives from the control room to studio floor, assisting with the set-up and striking of sets which can entail being able to stand for several hours per day and move stage pieces periodically. Position may also require assistance in Master Control & TOC If needed.

 

Qualifications:

A sharp, detail-oriented person who learns quickly and works well with a team.

Work schedule flexibility is required.

Technically savvy and proactive in identifying and appropriately addressing issues that may arise.

Adapts well to the needs of a fast-paced news environment.

High School diploma (or equivalent), college degree is preferred.

5 or more years of TV studio and control room operations preferred

Director of News Programming

The Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations (AMPERS), the largest association of its kind in the nation, is seeking an experienced, highly organized, energetic, motivational, and creative Director of News Programming. The qualified candidate will help to launch and manage the day‐to‐day operations of our new diverse news initiative. In addition, the individual will oversee the day‐to‐day operations of the award‐winning Minnesota Native News team as well as any other news products AMPERS develops. Currently, this position is funded through July of 2026. We anticipate getting an extension through July of 2027 and raising the funds needed to support the position well into the future.

Duties will include:

  1. Launching and overseeing the five‐minute daily newscasts for our diverse news initiative.
  2. Overseeing the production and distribution of the weekly five‐minute Minnesota Native News segments.
  3. Recruiting, coaching, training, and supervising all news reporters/producers.
  4. Producing newscasts and/or segments within the newscasts (initially estimated to be two to three five‐minute newscasts per week).
  5. Helping to create an onboarding curriculum, newsroom training handbook, and style guide.
  6. Training and motivating reporters/producers to deliver the best programs and segments possible.
  7. Creating a positive, educational, and inspirational environment.
  8. Working to ensure all programs and segments are meaningful, relevant, and interesting to our listeners and ensuring they represent the diversity of our audiences and our state.
  9. Ensuring all content is accurate and meets FCC requirements, and community standards, as well as libel, slander, and copyright laws.
  10. Ensuring every program and segment meets the high quality and standards set by the organization, including but not limited to the quality of the writing, sound, and delivery.
  11. Working with leaders of diverse communities to ensure the programs and segments are representative of and relevant to their communities.
  12. Overseeing the distribution of the news products to the AMPERS stations.
  13. Communicating progress to AMPERS’ Vice President of Programming.
  14. Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President of Programming or CEO.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  1. Three to five years of experience working in the broadcast news field.
  2. One year of experience supervising and coaching others.
  3. Excellent writing, communication, and coaching skills.
  4. Extensive experience writing and editing broadcast news scripts.
  5. Extensive experience with audio editing.
  6. Working connections within and/or experience working with diverse communities.

  1. 100% Remote (but work must be conducted within the state of Minnesota).

Compensation

  1. Salary range starts at $80,000. An increase in starting salary will be based on work and educational experience.
