Master Control Technician

Fox 9 KMSP/WFTC is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join our technical team as Master Control Operator.

 

Job responsibilities:

 

Oversee master control operations during newscasts, sporting events and other live programming. Oversee the recording and acquisition of syndicated programs and prepare shows for air by segmenting to standardized formats. Ingest locally produced programs, syndicated and paid programs, promotional material and commercial content while establishing quality control of video, audio levels and closed captioning. Check the broadcast log for accuracy.  Monitor all output signals on both KMSP and WFTC to ensure quality control of audio, video and closed captioning. Monitor master control automation systems and file servers to ensure proper operation. Populate the daily discrepancy report log by identifying problems and writing detailed reports. Oversee all broadcast logs on KMSP and WFTC and report issues to the Hub Operators. Edit logs as requested. Tune in content from microwave, satellite, fiber and video streaming systems.  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

A positive, detail-oriented person who learns quickly and works well with a team.

Must have a working knowledge of PC-based operating systems and file structures.

Previous television master control experience or other television technical experience preferred.

Flexible schedule with the ability work AM shift, PM shift, Weekends and Holidays as required.

Requires enrollment in IBEW 292 Union.

Assistant News Director

KMSP-WFTC TV, the Fox Owned and Operated station in Minneapolis-St. Paul, is looking for an Assistant News Director.

 

You’ll LEAD, not manage, our day to day news, weather, sports, investigative and digital teams. You’ll have a strong yet flexible editorial voice, with a primary focus on enterprise, unique content. 

 

You’ll work closely with the News Director and other news managers to foster a newsroom culture of innovation and collaboration.

 

You’ll also have a strong background in non-traditional and unique methods of content presentation, whether that’s on air or on line.

 

You’ll also work hand-in-hand with the News Director on coaching and mentoring ALL staff, not just the on-air people.

 

Make sure you have strong interpersonal and effective communication skills, personnel management experience, and solid news judgment. And you’ll need to be organized unlike you’ve ever been before.

Digital Content Lead

KMSP-TV is looking for Digital Creative Lead position to maximize distribution and visibility of digital content across apps, newsletters, social media and OTT.  This person will go beyond promoting content, and have a hand-on role in marketing, distribution and optimization of content as well as strategic planning for future major news events and FTS initiatives.

The person in this role will be a strong writer, a journalist at heart, with exceptional news judgement.  He/she will be the chief author of our daily digital newsletter (as well as other station initiative newsletters, as needed) and execute a plan to increase email distribution. 

The Digital Creative Lead will be the primary point of contact for digital marketing efforts on FOX Bet, Credible, Tubi, FOX Prime and local initiatives including partnerships with the Minnesota Vikings and University of Minnesota Athletics.

During major news events, this person will take our digital team’s content to the next level through influencer marketing, A/B testing, SEO analysis and search for additional distribution opportunities.

This person will be knowledgeable about digital metrics, able to analyze our impact, and identify what we are doing well and where we can grow.  In addition, the person will stay ahead of the game in digital trends, technology, and innovations to lead FOX 9 to be #1 in the digital market.

This position would report into our News Content Manager but also work closely with the Digital Sales Manager and VP/Creative Services to help support digital sales efforts and promotional opportunities.  When we need creative ideas to support digital sales revenue, this person will provide solutions to our clients.  When we need audience specific promotion to drive viewership for local programming, this is the person who will provide non-traditional ideas to promote.

Qualifications:

  • Graphics production
  • Instagram fluency
  • Experience with YouTube channel management
  • AP Style, experienced writer
  • Knowledge of trends and current/future landscape in OTT, content-based apps, streaming
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Willing to work a night and/or early morning shift
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in digital journalism preferred
