Digital Content Producer

WCCO is embarking on an exciting evolution of its newsroom and talk shows; seeking a talented multi-platform digital creator to originate and supervise the design and development of a variety of campaigns for all of our platforms. The Senior Content Producer will work with a variety of media, including video, audio, images, text, and graphics, to create compelling stories that inform, educate, or entertain our fans. This candidate should possess strong news judgment as well as a passion for creating experiences and audio storytelling. The Senior Content Producer will work to grow audiences across all platforms, from the mobile app and social media to smart speakers and podcasting. This is an opportunity to join an award-winning news operation and legacy brand which has built a large loyal listening audience and now looks to extend its reach by creating and distributing an array of compelling digital content. This can include scripting, shooting, editing, and other production tasks.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Respond to breaking news and actively monitor sources of breaking news (Dataminr, Twitter, AP, etc.); develop story ideas
  • Write and publish articles, audio stories, podcasts and short videos on all digital platforms
  • Write and edit headlines and text to position content for maximum engagement on the web, apps, and social media
  • Ensure stories have appropriate elements (photo, audio, video, social embeds) 
  • Ensure all articles comply with AP style and are SEO-friendly
  • Post to social media accounts, compose push notifications and newsletters
  • Use real-time data in Google Analytics and Chartbeat to drive editorial/story decisions 
  • Collaborate with broadcast staff (show hosts and producers) to advance and tailor on-air segments, interviews, and other stories for digital 
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to content team (newsroom and on-air
  • Develop and maintain working calendar for features and other benchmark opportunities

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 3-5 years of experience producing, editing, and distributing digital (news) content
• Solid news judgment, ability to work under deadline with strong writing skills
• Experience with content management/online publishing systems
• Ability to help edit other writers’ work for clarity and accuracy
• Command of best practices on all social media platforms
• Understands web and social analytics and how to interpret data
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Audition, or other comparable photo and audio editing software

• Ability to evaluate leads and tips to develop content and story ideas
• Ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments while under deadline pressure
• Strong organizational skills and solid work ethic

• Willingness to experiment and innovate
