Content Desk Manager

KAAL-TV in Rochester is seeking a Content Desk Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the News Director, Executive Producer, and other news team members to build and develop a consistent advance planning system for news coverage and special events.
  • Constantly generate daily story ideas and plan for the future.
  • Lead daily meetings with producers and reporters.
  • Maintain strong local contacts.
  • Assist producers and reporters with story calls, setups, and follow-through.
  • Coordinate breaking news coverage, crews, and LiveU units.
  • Ability to oversee schedules/gear/vehicles.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Provide newsroom leadership.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with teammates of various personalities and others during high-pressure, high-stress situations.
  • College Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism preferred.
  • Two years of TV/digital newsroom experience a plus.
  • Must be extremely well organized and detail-oriented.
  • Advanced ability in critical thinking and judgment.
  • Must be able to make good decisions quickly; able to articulate and communicate information and direction to news staff and other station employees.
  • Computer and Social Media skills a must.
  • Solid exposure to and understanding of ethics of Journalism.
  • Producer experience a plus.
  • Commitment, determination, and a strong sense of teamwork.
  • Must have a valid driver's license & safe driving history as determined by the Company. Driving record will be checked.
