In This Role, You Will:

• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories

• Contact sources and develop news stories. Cover breaking, general, sports, feature, investigative, and political news stories. Produce news stories that are unique and captivating

Job Requirements:

Requirements:

• Current driver’s license and ability to operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations

• BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field

• 2-5 years of experience preferred

• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems

The Broadcast Engineer is an experienced broadcast/IT professional who designs, documents, upgrades, repairs, operates, and changes multi-platform systems. This person is also responsible for new system designs and implementation; this includes specifying the hardware and software to meet TPT’s needs as well as managing the roll out of new equipment and systems. The Broadcast Engineer will engage with other Engineering team members to drive innovation in the broadcast operations of TPT, and operate a diverse array of file-based and live video production systems.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Video Systems Engineering (75% of time)

  • Provide professional technical integration, evaluation, support, and repairs of all components of video systems, which include operations, equipment repairs, and maintenance.
  • Respond to emergency situations and be prepared to repair production equipment as they relate to live broadcast and video systems.
  • Maintain a high level of current and competent industry safety standards and practices for safe event operations.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory, maintenance schedule, and repair logs of video system components.
  • Make recommendations and action plans for equipment maintenance, purchases, and policies and procedures for video implementation.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance, break fix, and system calibration to guarantee optimum performance at all times. You’ll keep documents updated (e.g., line drawings, SOPs, and service agreements) and assist with system design and specification of gear for various projects.
  • Operate various equipment to support TPT productions
  • Diagnose issues in file-based workflows including video, audio, and captions.
  • Configure and troubleshoot video production and live streaming systems.
  • Manage projects from concept to documentation.
  • Engage internal stakeholders to plan, procure, install, configure, and test new systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal Production teams.
  • Create system documentation including signal flow diagrams and operation manuals.

 Other Duties as Assigned (25% of time)

  • Research new products, solutions, and technologies.
  • Make recommendations and implement action plans for equipment maintenance, purchases, and policies and procedures for video implementation for capital investment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience

  • 5 years of work experience in video systems engineering including knowledge of video, audio and captioning file formats; associated transcoding systems; video streaming compression systems; as well as PC and Macintosh computing platforms.
  • 5 years of experience accurately operating and repairing equipment under the pressure of live production.
  • 5 years of In-depth experience and knowledge in technology and broadcast productions.
  • 5 years of technical production work in linear/non-linear broadcasts
  • Hands-on experience with servers, virtual machines, storage, and networking equipment

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technology field.
  • 6+ years of experience in video systems engineering including knowledge of video, audio and captioning file formats; associated transcoding systems; video streaming compression systems; as well as PC and Macintosh computing platforms.
  • Experience with audiovisual systems, including Crestron and Biamp.
  • Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) certification.
  • 1+ years of experience working with ATSC 3.0.
  • 1+ years of experience working with SMPTE 2110.

Producing:

  • Ensure that all details of a newscast are taken care of, including scripts, graphic information, video lists, and name keys.
  • Meet deadlines so other departments can do their part for the broadcast.

  • Work collaboratively with the staff to adapt to changing news situations.
  • Complete post-newscast paperwork, reports, and tasks for the next newscast and news team.

KMSP Fox9/WFTC Fox 9+, the Twin Cities Fox-Owned TV station is looking for a senior technician at our studio in Eden Prairie MN.

Broadcast Television technology is constantly changing, so you may not have all the requirements on our desired qualifications list, and that’s OK. Our ideal candidate is a generally technically savvy individual with decent IT skills, a positive attitude, good people skills, and the desire to work on cutting edge equipment in a fun environment.

What you will do in this role:

  • Install, troubleshoot, configure and maintain a wide variety of television broadcast equipment including HDSDI television switching and routing equipment, audio mixing equipment, broadcast studio and ENG camera systems, robotic camera systems, MPEG encoding equipment, satellite and microwave data and distribution systems, production and master control automation equipment, wireless microphone and IFB equipment, intercom matrix equipment, etc.

  • Install and configure various IT equipment including desktop PC’s, laptops, network switching infrastructure, and KVM systems

  • Train end users on new systems and workflows; develop documentation, user guides, and drawings as required.

  • Update broadcast systems as required to maintain high InfoSec security standards

  • patch and update broadcast operating systems and applications as required for life cycle maintenance and security best practices

  • Set up remote production events such as Vikings Game Day Live, Town Ball, State Fair, and other remote events.

  • Set Up and maintain remote production facilities such as US Bank Stadium, Vikings TCO Training Facility, State Fair broadcast site, and other remote facilities

  • Assist the Transmitter supervisor with maintenance of the KMSP/WFTC transmitters and Shoreview transmitter site.

  • Assist with operations of the Fox 9 Technical Operations Center to support news operations.

  • Assist with cable management where required.

  • Interface with and contact outside vendors to assist in various building related maintenance such as HVAC, Generator, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • IT knowledge, including working knowledge of networking, PC/server hardware, SSH/Telnet CLI access via Putty, etc.

  • Windows OS knowledge (Windows 10, Windows Server OS versions)

  • The ability to learn new systems quickly and embrace new technology.

  • Ability to interface remotely with internal Fox personnel or outside vendor support to resolve technical issues quickly

  • The ability to successfully interface with Engineering Team members and other station staff to maintain Fox9‘s positive work environment.

  • The ability to work outdoors,  lift heavy objects, climb ladders and bend over/kneel to perform various equipment and cable installation tasks

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Valid Driver’s license is required

Helpful Qualifications and Experience (But not required, for the right candidate):

  • SDI video knowledge and experience

  • MPEG Encoding/streaming experience (MPE 2, 4, HEVC, etc.) and ASI/TSOIP installation and troubleshooting

  • Experience with studio/ENG cameras, robotic camera systems

  • Audio/mixing system Experience including Dante/AES 67 audio networking, mixing, and distribution

  • Mac and/or Linux knowledge

  • Data/Video/Audio fiber distribution and troubleshooting

  • VMWare and Cisco switch knowledge

  • Soldering and cable assembly skills (coax, XLR, Ethernet)

  • Light construction skills for various installation projects

  • SBE Certification

  • IT or Electronics certificate and/or AS Degree

This is a Union position, must join IBEW Local 292.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are searching for a full-time newscast producer who is aggressive and passionate about local news. Our producers have a strong vision for their shows and deliver engaging newscasts with strong writing and production skills. Candidates will be expected to create rundowns, craft segments, work well under pressure and deadlines.

Candidates must have strong news judgment, solid writing skills, knowledge of current events and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of television production techniques and newsroom computer systems is required. Knowledge of Internet publishing and related skills strongly preferred. We require experience in a medium to major market and a four-year college degree.

Producer would also train as back-up to all newscasts, as well as contribute to all of our social media platforms.
