Job Overview

The Broadcast RF Systems Engineer's primary responsibility is to install, test, configure and commission Broadcast & Broadcast related IT RF systems, bringing projects to completion while ensuring quality in both, transmitter/translator sites with specialization in audio, video, digital, remote control, and computer-based engineering in a studio setting as well as in remote location.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate, diagnose and make repairs and adjustments to transmitter, satellite and microwave and ancillary electronic and electrical equipment associated with the production and broadcasting television. understand Broadcast system designs and demonstrate installation techniques.
  • Assist other RF Engineers on more complex equipment issues, site installations, diagnoses and repairs.
  • Verify day-to-day compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations applicable to transmitter/translator facilities; maintains required records for the FCC and FAA.
  • Maintain records as they pertain to equipment and transmission site operations and repairs. This includes transmitters, tower inspections, tower lights, emergency power generators, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair technical issues on a wide variety of broadcast equipment.
  • Operate diagnose and make minor adjustments and repairs to high powered UHF television transmitters.
  • Operate, diagnose, and make minor adjustments and repairs to low powered UHF television translators.
  • Install and integrate new equipment at transmitter and translator sites associated with the production and broadcasting of educational radio/television equipment.\
  • Communicate status updates. Discuss issues and provide suggestions in a clear manner.
  • Identify integration inefficiencies and propose solutions.
  • Work with on-site tech team to identify and finalize punch list items.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Managers to provide both general and specific recommendations on installation standards, technologies, personnel, job specifics and implementation.
  • Ability to work established hours. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Job Overview

This position is responsible for studio production, audio and technical directing of live and pre-recorded television shows and promos.

Job Responsibilities

Studio

  • Operate television camera, teleprompter, and audio equipment at a satisfactory level and with confidence during live and taped shows.
  • Respond to all cues given over headset and in person during shows. Must react quickly and efficiently to cues and other directions.  Act as a critical communication link between director and talent.  Reports any concerns.
  • Take care of all aspects of studio maintenance, which includes cleaning, repair, set up, tear down and storage of studio and related items; routine inspection, monitoring performance and basic trouble shooting of equipment. Maintain studio lighting and other studio supplies. Follow proper protocol for notifying other personnel when items are needed or there are problems or failures. Studio Cleanliness includes Studio A, Studio C, Twin Cities Live studio, the production area and storage areas.
  • On a daily basis provides assistance to and provides input about the show.
  • Complete knowledge of the lighting systems in all studios

Audio

  • Under the direction of the director, correctly/accurately switch all audio going through the audio booth. Work ahead to insure that all elements needed during your shift are ready to go.
  • Control the quality of the audio going through the audio booth. Insure that all elements of the audio are at the proper level. Insure that the balance between microphones, music, and videotape sources are mixed and at a proper relationship with each other.
  • Ready at the audio position during assigned shift to handle any audio needs, especially during times of breaking news.
  • Help with coverage of special events and with the coverage of audio during vacations and other times when no audio operator is available.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Review the PSA’s sent to us by various nonprofits to determine if they should be placed in our available inventory.
  • Produce and file the station’s FCC issues & illustrative programming report on a quarterly basis.
  • Facilitate relationships with community organizations that meet our coverage strategy and brand focus. Advocate for community partnerships within KARE 11 and provide support to the content teams.
  • Coordinate employee volunteer efforts with station-sponsored community campaigns.
  • Serve as a liaison when requests are made from the community for station talent.
  • Maintain a calendar of station-sponsored events.
  • Represent the station on community boards or committees where appropriate and as needed.
  • Develop partner agreements that foster strong relationships and support the strategic impact of the KARE 11 brand.
  • Lead station tours and assist with onboarding new staff.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years event marketing, public relations, project management or content production.
  • Strong writing and communications skills with grammatical proficiency
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Comfortable and confident solving problems, making real-time decisions and executing to meet a plan.
  • Ability to create Power Point or similar presentations and communicate plans and proposals to individuals and groups.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, media-focused environment.
  • Experience in media and a regular consumer of news are highly desirable.
  • Self-starting individual who can work independently, with the ability to lead and develop multiple projects at the same time.

Our coverage area of southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa sees snow, rain, tornadoes, derechos, floods, and more. We’re the perfect market to get your start and grow as a professional broadcast meteorologist. The KTTC First Alert Weather team is looking for someone who loves weather to join them in forecasting for southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. This person will primarily forecast on-air on weekends and have other duties creating content during the week. This meteorologist will work closely with our Chief Meteorologist, news management, and producers to craft engaging and dynamic forecasts.

An ideal candidate will have a firm understanding that weather impacts all parts of our lives. Forecasting at the green screen in studio isn’t their only responsibility. Climate change is real and will be the story this generation covers their entire lives. Weather happens outside the studio and this meteorologist will have a strong desire to get out and tell those impactful stories.

We're also looking for someone who can create unique weather content viewers would like to see on Roku, AppleTV, Amazon Fire, our weather app, and website. Experience with WSI graphics systems is a plus. Experience reporting, shooting, and editing will set you apart from other applicants, but not required.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Analyze weather data and prepare an accurate forecast
• Use WSI graphic systems to create content supporting the forecast
• Cover severe and breaking weather situations across all platforms
• Post weather content to station website, social media accounts, apps, and streaming devices
• Flexibility in scheduling to cover severe weather or fill-in for other weather team members
