Job Summary/Description:

Northern News Now is looking for a part time Master Control Operator for evenings and weekends. This individual is responsible for monitoring the quality and accuracy of our on-air signals as well as ensuring the transmission meets government regulations and the station's high standards.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor multiple TV channels for on-air signal and quality control
  • Perform on-air switching for live events
  • Operate recording hardware, satellite receivers and computer based systems
  • Prepare and check material for on-air playback via automation system
  • Verify all material airing by referencing program logs
  • Monitor transmitter and tower lights accurately to meet FCC regulations
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot issues when they occur
  • Ability to make fast and accurate judgements
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor

Responsible for writing newscasts and production of the broadcast.

Job Responsibilities

  • With the Executive Producer, constructs and plans a daily newscast by organizing, writing, selecting, and making creative decisions for assigned live newscast, using criteria established by management. Makes decisions about stories to be included, how long they should be, the form of the story (i.e. voice over, live remote, reporter package, etc.), and in what order they should run. Writes and rewrites stories as needed. Plans for contingencies.
  • Makes sure all aspects of the newscast are complete before the newscast airs. Plans ahead and meets deadlines so newscasts can run smoothly for all involved. Important aspects include completed scripts, graphic information, video lists, all necessary script times, and key information. Enters information for story choices and storied into the newsroom computer system. Notifies proper people of any changes or special situations that may come up in a timely manner (i.e. breaking news, live shots)
  • Writes and posts stories to website and other media platforms. Posts to social media. Frequently updates online stories.
  • Shoots and edits videotape for broadcast as needed.
  • Communicates frequently throughout the shift and works collaboratively with others in the newsroom including reporters, anchors, photographers, assignment desk staff, creative services and other producers about the newscast and any changes being made. Relays story and newscast instructions and information throughout the day via telephones, e-mails, faxes or other ways available. Motivates staff before and during newscast.
  • Responds and work well in a crisis and during breaking news. Handles last minute and unexpected changes. Communicates quickly and clearly to necessary staff and talent.
  • Writes clear, accurate and interesting stories. Ensures that any visuals shown are relevant, appropriate and impact. Breaks down complicated and involved stories so that they are easy to understand.
  • Makes decisions about the timing of a live newscast as it is being broadcast. The Producer watches the live newscast from a designated control room. Communicates changes to director, technical director, audio operator, graphics person, studio operators (inc. camera operators, floor director, teleprompter operator), videotape operator, master control operator, and anchors. Decisions about the live newscast are immediate and communications must be relayed clearly and timely.
  • Completes post-show paperwork and tasks including the technical trouble report and archiving.

The Position is responsible for all commercial production duties and projects for radio markets as well as live and/or recorded on- air shifts.

  • Production Manager
    • Manages and completes all aspects of commercial production (creative development, voiceover, dubbing and assigning dubbing, write copy, coordinate and assist with client studio sessions, engineering spots) generated by the sales department in a timely and creative manner.

  • On-Air Talent
    • Plan, prepare and deliver live and recorded program content for station in an entertaining and professional manner in a style consistent with the appropriate station format. Voice track other dayparts.
    • Interview guests and other famous or public personalities, as well as moderating panels or discussion shows.
    • Answer phone lines and interview members of listening audience.

Report all discrepancies on the Company Discrepancy Report. Record assigned commercial, promotion or public service announcements in a professional manner.
  • Promote the Company and clients of the Company by planning and attending in-person appearances such as community events, including hosting and assisting at charity functions and remote broadcasts.
  • Act in a professional manner when representing each station.
  • Maintain and build a positive cooperative attitude within the station. Build working relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors and the general public.

  • Perform highly diversified building and grounds maintenance. This includes but is not limited to cutting lawns, trees, bushes, cleaning up leaves, removing snow and ice, moving furniture, changing lightbulbs, cleaning.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean & orderly work area. Take safety courses as required in order to maintain compliance.
  • Drives Company owned vehicles with safety and complying with all traffic laws.
  • As needed, assists shipping and receiving by unloading trucks, checking in materials, and distribution.
  • Communicates building maintenance needs to supervisor and beyond. Makes building maintenance recommendations and assists with procuring needs.
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
  • Complete other duties as requested and needed.

Sioux Falls, SD - Live and Local – no voice tracking on this show!  We’re rated #1 in the market.  100,000-watt KTWB-FM has a rare full-time on-air afternoon opening, and we need a showstopper who can hit it out of the park and do a show with heavy phones, massive local content and wildly fun contests.

Our current afternoon host of 9 years is off to his first PD gig out west in a Top-100 market and we’re looking for someone who loves country music, who is outgoing and loves to meet clients and fans. “That was / this is” talent need not apply. Bring only your best and let it blow us away.

Our ideal show host must know how to connect with our loyal listeners through multiple platforms... on-air, online, socials, and face to face engaging again and again.  You will need to deliver compelling and interesting content unlike anyone else to stand out and win!
