Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations Contract – Freelance position
AMPERS is the largest statewide association of community radio stations in the United States, currently comprised of 17 independent community radio stations in Minnesota. The stations primarily serve underserved populations including greater Minnesota, tribal nations, diverse communities, and students. From Grand Marais and Thief River Falls, to Mankato and Winona, and just about everywhere in between, we’ve got Minnesota covered. AMPERS helps member stations serve their diverse communities by generating revenue, developing and sharing programming, and works to correct the narrative regarding historically underrepresented communities through accurate storytelling and reporting.
MN:90: Minnesota History in 90 Seconds is a daily radio segment exploring wide-ranging topics across the state including sports, politics, environment, business, entertainment, pop culture, and more, since 2012. This project is funded by the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, also referred to as the Legacy Fund.
AMPERS is seeking Minnesota-based contract Producers to pitch and produce quality, thoughtful, and impactful segments for MN:90. The ideal candidate has significant experience with audio storytelling.
Duties include:
- Generating story ideas for the MN:90 program, as well as working on assignment
- Writing engaging and fact-checked scripts
- Collecting historical, ambient, and found sound
- Recording narration based on approved scripts
- Editing together narration and sound into sound-rich, informative, and engaging segments
- Attending meetings with an editor when necessary
- Ensuring the timely completion and quality of segments
- Working closely with the AMPERS VP of Programming and Production Assistant
- Other duties for this project as assigned by AMPERS staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with storytelling and/or journalism
- Some experience with either recording, voicing, and/or audio production
- Experience with media storytelling
- Organized and detail oriented
- Excellent communications skills
- Willing to participate in training and receive feedback during the production process
- Able to deliver on deadline.

Compensation & Benefits
$225.00 per fully produced 90-second segment with copy-right free photo and written description.
Length of contract
July 1 – December 31, 2025 (with the possibility for extension).
