KBEM-FM in Minneapolis/St. Paul is seeking a Part-Time Announcer.
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, hosts MPS radio station KBEM musical programs; keeps current with new trends in Jazz music, and maintains the music library and legacy programming.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Hosts KBEM musical programs; presents news and public service announcements according to MPS standards; works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on experience.
- Acts as a general announcer and board operator to include: hosting live and voice tracked music shows; reporting news; assisting with engineering of remote broadcasts.
- Acts as a traffic reporter embedded at the MNDOT Regional Transportation Management Center; monitors maps, cameras, and radios to craft a concise and useful traffic hazard and delay report every ten (10) minutes during drive time day parts.
- Operates standard broadcast control room equipment to include: Enco automation, studio phone hybrids, ISDN codecs, satellite downlinks, compact disc players, audio mixing consoles, and audio editing software.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
- Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
- Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
- At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma/GED equivalent, completion of a recognized broadcasting training program; AND two (2) years of radio broadcasting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
Knowledge of:
- FCC guidelines, rules, and regulations governing telecommunications operations.
- Techniques and protocols for presenting public radio programming.
- Operation and general maintenance of Broadcasting equipment.
- Principles of record keeping and records management.
Skill in:
- Recording, producing, and broadcasting audio projects.
- Efficient and effective use of broadcast equipment.
- Identifying music which meets station standards and listener demographics.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard office software.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. ****************************************************************************************
