Morning Traffic Reporter/MSJ

KARE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, is looking for a dynamic, enterprising Morning Traffic Reporter/Multiskilled Journalist to join our morning show, “Sunrise.” The successful candidate is a team player and newsroom leader with excellent communication skills and proven ability to ad lib in any live situation. This candidate must work skillfully with an ensemble morning broadcast team.

This candidate must have the ability to provide the latest traffic information during our morning newscasts. Candidate must be able to utilize our traffic tools and technology to report on breaking accidents, jams, and other traffic-related issues during the morning drive. This candidate will also report on traffic on all platforms as a multimedia journalist to inform viewers about traffic projects, construction, and traffic news stories that impact our audience. The candidate must also be a strong, enterprising reporter with the ability to cultivate sources, interview, shoot, write, voice and edit compelling stories for mornings or other dayparts. Candidate must be connected to the community and have practical knowledge of the roads and freeways in the MSP region.

Broadcast skills are important and so is the ability to write for all platforms. The ideal must have a good understanding of social media emerging platforms and have a strong social presence.

Responsibilities:

•  Provide multiple daily traffic reports as part of an ensemble morning show and report on important traffic local stories affecting our community

•  Generate unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content.

•  Report live from the field.

•  To be a strong communicator with the ability to react quickly to breaking news in a changing environment.

•  Develop story ideas, cultivate traffic sources, write, shoot and edit enterprise traffic stories, and for on-air broadcasting that offer a unique traffic perspective.

•  Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must.

•  Write and post daily on all digital platforms.

•  Community and/or talent appearances.

•  Perform other tasks as required

Job Requirements:

•  Journalism or related degree preferred and one to three years broadcasting experience

•  Previous traffic reporting experience preferred but not mandatory

•  Proven strength in on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib.

•  Excellent writing, packaging, and live skills.

•  Must be able to report in a broad range of styles, from field anchoring to studio touchscreen

•  Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.

•  Knowledge of ENPS and Edius, a plus.
