Minnesota Native News is currently searching for a team leader to motivate and organize a group of talented producers and keep the program on schedule with quality, thoughtful, and impactful stories. The ideal candidate has significant experience working with Indigenous communities.
Minnesota Native News is an award-winning weekly five-minute radio program exploring economic, cultural, health, government, and public policy issues that impact Indian country in Minnesota. Minnesota Native News covers stories and issues in a way that was informative and relevant to both Native and non-Native listeners.
Duties include:
- Mentor, teach and manage new and upcoming producers
- Serve as the back-up producer if a producer is not available
- Generate story ideas for radio segments
- Manage schedule and producers
- Hold regular team meetings to discuss stories
- Build monthly schedule of stories
- Work with producers on story assignments
- Assure the timely completion and quality of episodes
- Uphold journalistic ethics
- Work closely with, and keep in regular contact with, the Production Director and VP of Programming
- Other duties as requested by the Production Director and VP of Programming
Qualifications:
- Have a journalism background
- Be technically proficient in the handling of audio files
- Be organized and detail oriented
- Have great communications skills
- Have excellent leadership abilities
- Have the skills to edit audio files/stories as needed
Compensation:
- $250 per week (additional $525 if you produce the newscast for that week)
Length of contract:
- January – June 2023 (with the possibility for six-month extensions)
Supervising the position:
- Candidate will report to the VP of Programming
