Investigative Multi-Skilled Journalist

KARE-TV in Minneapolis/St. Paul is seeking an Investigative Multi-Skilled Journalist.

KARE 11, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis, Minnesota seeks to hire an experienced investigative multi-skilled journalist. We’re looking for a serious, accomplished off-air journalist who is a highly motivated and organized self-starter with exceptional reporting, writing, researching, and data skills. This person will be expected to collaborate with other members of our team to produce high-impact, difference-making investigative journalism for television and digital platforms.

The journalist will find opportunities on a Peabody, duPont-Columbia, IRE, and George Polk award-winning investigative team to do some of the best work of their career, limited only by their ambition and curiosity.The successful candidate will be able to multitask and produce content on deadline – from pitching investigative angles on daily news coverage to long-term and follow-up reports.

This is not an entry-level position. You will be an investigative journalist working closely with a team of other experienced reporters, producers and photographers who value a storytelling approach and consistently turn out some of the highest-level in-depth journalism in the country. Only applicants with a minimum of three years of experience will be considered. A portfolio that includes investigative work will be required.

While broadcast experience is a plus, applicants with print/digital backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise and generate short-term and long-term investigative content for all platforms.
  • Research, shoot, edit, write investigative stories for video and web.
  • Develop and maintain sources that generate exclusive story content.
  • Work closely with management and an experienced investigative reporter.

Job Requirements:

  • College degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as an investigative producer or reporter.
  • Experience or aptitude for data journalism.
  • Knowledge of laws regarding privacy, trespass, libel, FOIA and open meetings.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under deadline pressure.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources, including digital media.
  • Demonstrated track record for acting on viewer tips, developing sources, breaking stories and exposing corruption.
  • Reputation as a team player who values working collaboratively.
  • Required on-site. Must be willing to work in Minneapolis/St. Paul metro.

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment

Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
