Digital Executive Producer

KARE 11, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul, is looking for a Digital Executive Producer to join our team. The ideal candidate has great people skills and expert knowledge of digital and social media. This position requires a leader with a strong voice in daily editorial meetings and in the newsroom, championing accuracy, quality and audience experience on all digital platforms, especially our website. The Digital Executive Producer reports to the Director of Digital Content.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead the digital team in daily content decisions, creation of original digital content and special projects
  • Mentor the digital team and newsroom on best practices including SEO, story optimization, user-generated content, social media, etc.
  • Lead live stream efforts through planning and delegation
  • Assign tasks to digital team members
  • Focus on accuracy and balance in digital articles and social content through copy editing and training of staff
  • Hold regular check-ins with digital team
  • Contribute to newsroom editorial meetings to help make editorial decisions based on social listening, digital data and live metrics
  • Regularly monitor digital analytics, share findings, implement tactics for improvement
  • Aggressively cover breaking news for digital/social platforms through breaking news alerts, live streams, social posts and web articles
  • Participate in a weekend on-call rotation

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience with increased levels of responsibility, including team leadership
  • Experience in writing, editing, SEO and content management systems
  • Excellent copyediting skills
  • Understanding the tenets of professional journalism
  • Strong social media skills, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit
  • Knowledge of digital metrics and data sources, and experience in making data-driven strategic or tactical decisions
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Sedentary work: Involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
