Assistant Chief Photojournalist

KMSP-TV in Eden Prairie, MN is seeking an Assistant Chief Photojournalist.

You’ll help coach and manage a team of 30-plus talented photojournalists and editors. You’ll be a key player in our positive culture of creativity and accountability. Below are just some of the duties you’ll be a part of:

  • Routinely review and coach photojournalists/editors on techniques and style. Hold coaching and “best practices” sessions for both the technical and creative aspects of photojournalism.
  • Work with the Chief in establishing and enforcing standards of photojournalism and editing. You’ll also help to improve our systems to measure progress and ensure accountability.
  • Work with Manager of Photojournalism, News Operations Manager and Asst. ND for live in-the-field productions. In particular, those include our regular sports show remotes with our broadcast partners. 
  • When designated by the Chief and duties allow, be at hand during select live newscasts to troubleshoot live tech and other unexpected problems.
  • Assist Chief with photographer gear and vehicles
  • Be highly skilled with: Edius editing, After Effects, Bit Central, Panasonic P2 cameras.
  • Be able to operate Live U packs and maintain Live U servers.
  • Shoot, capture and edit visual content for multiple platforms
  • Train as a drone operator and visual observer.
  • Other duties as assigned by VP/News

Qualifications

  • You will have 5 years of experience as a major market news photojournalist.      
  • You will demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Your schedule can include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Your skill set must include the ability work under deadline pressure
  • You must demonstrate professionalism, positivity and be a good newsroom citizen
  • You must have a valid Minnesota driver's license and a clean driving record
  • You must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
