Job Overview

  • Works with Sales Departments to establish outside relationships for cross-promotional partnerships.  Coordinates the creation of sales and promotional ideas. Coordinates recaps for all sales and promotional appearances.  Works on the development and execution of community growth strategies with others. 
  • Develops strong relationships to position station as a pop culture leader in the community both on-air and on digital/social media platforms.
  • Working within approved budgets and guidelines, determines promotional merchandise needs, including creative. Responsible for obtaining competitive quotes and completing purchase requisitions in timely manner. 
  • Recruits, interviews, hires and directly supervises full-time Promotions Manager and part-time Promotions Event Staff.   Responsible for managing performance and expectations.  Works with station management on disciplinary issues.
  • Point of contact for listener email comments.  Responds appropriately and in a timely fashion.  Escalates issues when necessary.
  • Oversees station contests, including rule generation and fulfillment of all prizes won from station; to include securing prizes and obtaining required waiver release information according to company policy.
  • Works cooperatively with others to ensure that station marketing, promotions and appearances are executed flawlessly and within set parameters.  
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours. Ability to work other hours or alternate schedules as needed, as assigned with little or no notice.  Such alternate/additional work can include weekdays, evenings and weekends. 
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.

Job Purpose   
This role serves on a team of Anchor-Reporters as the on-air voices of the network as well as the content providers of written stories, audio and newscasts for affiliate clients statewide, and in some cases, regionally or nationally. Based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, this position primarily covers the Minnesota Legislature and other state agency news.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Research facts around breaking news events in person or through a series of phone interviews that are of importance to a statewide audience, including contacting and meeting with state and national leaders and newsmakers.
  • Research, write and publish original news content to various websites and social media platforms.
  • Produce and anchor hourly radio newscasts and longform interviews.

 

Job Specifications/Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or closely related field.

The Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations (AMPERS), the largest association of its kind in the nation, is seeking an experienced, highly organized, energetic, motivational, and creative Vice-President of Programming. The qualified candidate will serve as the executive producer and manager for the award-winning team that produces: Minnesota Native News, Native Lights, MN90: Minnesota History in 90 Seconds, the Veterans’ Voices series, as well as other shows and series that we are in the process of developing. The Vice-President of Programming will also help develop, launch, and oversee our diverse news initiative.

Duties will include:

  1. Serving as the second in command helping to oversee and manage day-to-day operations.
  2. Recruiting, coaching, training, and supervising all producers.
  3. Motivating producers to deliver the best programs and segments possible.

  8. Working with leaders of diverse communities to ensure the programs and segments are representative of and relevant to their communities.
  9. Serving as the liaison to informational partners for the programming aspects of projects.
  10. Keeping programs and projects on time and within budget.
  11. Helping to identify and create new programs that can generate strong content and revenue.
  12. Communicating progress to the CEO of AMPERS on a regular basis.
  13. Additional duties as assigned by the CEO of AMPERS.

  1. Ten years of experience working in the broadcast field
  2. Five years of experience supervising and coaching others
