Responsibilities for this position may include:

  • Recruit, hire, and manage all department heads.
  • Set the tone for a positive and supportive team culture.
  • Develop strategic plans for market growth and profitability.
  • Regulatory Compliance.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and development to staff.
  • Partner with the corporate team to provide maximum assets and opportunities for the local staff.
  • Successfully uncover and close new advertisers utilizing multimedia campaign strategies.
  • Understand and know how to consult on digital from managed services, such as SEO, SEM, and digital marketing including mobile to social and programmatic advertising.
  • Ensure that company initiatives and tools provided are used and maximized.
  • Conduct weekly sales meetings and training sessions.
  • Outline and oversee a measurement strategy with results delivery both internally and externally.
  • Stay informed on relevant media and advertising trends and innovative solutions to bring to the market.

Preference may be given to candidates who have the above experience plus the following:

  • Experience as a Market Manager in a small to medium sized market.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communication, Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent level of experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Director of Sales in a medium to large market.

KROX Radio, a full-service radio station with news, sports, and public service, is looking for a full-time News Director for our award-winning news department.  There would be an opportunity to also do sports play-by-play (about 30 to 40 games a year for high school and some college sports).  
The news director is responsible for developing local news stories for the radio newscasts Monday-Friday and our website. The news director has an important job of covering Crookston City Council, Polk County Commission, and Crookston School District meetings. The news director also covers community happenings and any other news that happens in the Crookston community. The news director needs strong ethical standards, the knowledge of the value of public service media, social media, and technology.

The news director is responsible for developing local news stories for the radio newscasts Monday-Friday and our website. The news director also covers community happenings and any other news that happens in the Crookston community. The news director needs strong ethical standards, the knowledge of the value of public service media, social media, and technology.

The news director needs to have the following-
- Demonstrate commitment to accuracy, ethics, and transparency
- Good people skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours as news stories require
- Demonstrated skills in interviewing and writing
- Comfort with taking pictures
- Training as a reporter, writer, editor, photographer, or producer is helpful but not necessary
- Comfortable with editing audio for radio broadcasts

The news director can also help with covering sporting events for the website and/or do play-by-play for extra pay, if interested.

Salary – $33,000 to $36,000 DOE

EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO QUALIFY FOR THE POSITION The ideal candidate should: · Demonstrate a successful track record in media and/or event and underwriting revenue growth. · At least 3 years experience in media/advertising sales; High school diploma required, with college degree preferred. · Able to create thoughtful and persuasive written, oral and presentation communications, as well as the ability to explain the NCR value proposition to existing and prospective underwriters. · Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
