Industry advocacy at the federal and state level

MBA’s advocacy team is constantly vigilant and prepared to respond to legislative or regulatory issues that impact the broadcast industry.

FCC Alternative Inspection Program

Every three years, the MBA sends highly qualified inspectors to member stations across the state to ensure compliance with FCC rules and regulations. Stations that successfully pass the program are exempted from most FCC inspections. Our next inspection cycle begins in the late spring/early summer of 2008.

Our e-newsletter is sent by email weekly to keep you informed of issues that affect your business.

Legislative Action Alerts/Updates

When we need to mobilize our industry grassroots, we send out alerts and updates by email to give you the information you need to communicate with your lawmakers and regulatory authorities.

The MBA offers members access to Washington, DC and local counsel who are prepared to answer basic legal and regulatory questions.

Our annual awards program recognizes the best in Minnesota broadcasting.

Access Minnesota radio/TV public affairs programming

A valuable benefit that provides members with free high quality programming that addresses issues that matter to Minnesotans. Access Minnesota is produced in cooperation with the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts and draws upon the expertise of their faculty who offer insights on critical issues. The program is also a forum for our elected officials, community leaders and other newsmakers. Best of all, each program is accompanied by a sheet listing the issues discussed for inclusion in your station’s public file.

Gopher Sports Update

A weekly 30-minute radio program highlighting Gopher intercollegiate athletics. Coaches, student-athletes and administrators offer an in-depth look at Gopher sports that goes beyond the headlines and scores. This is another free programming service to members.

One-day educational seminars

The MBA offers periodic seminars on issues impacting broadcasters from political advertising to EEO compliance to interactive technologies.

MBA scholarship program

The James J. Wychor scholarships are awarded annually to students pursuing studies in electronic communications.
